Word of the week – Euro 2012

The Euro 2012 Football Competition started last week so here’s some football vocabulary for you:

a foul (n) to foul someone (v) = goes against the rules of the game.  For example if one player kicks another player or does something he is not allowed to do this is a foul.  That was an awful foul by Balotelli, he deserves a red card for that.

a tackle (n) to tackle someone (v) = to get the ball from an opponent.  That was a great tackle by Piquet.

Equaliser (n) to equalise (v) = a goal which makes the score equal.  Rooney scored the equaliser to make it 2-2.

Remember this website has some great activities for practising your English and they have a new Euro 2012 section too:

Have a great weekend and I hope you will be cheering England on tonight!! x
